Critical power control projects built around reliability.

Explore examples of HPCS upgrades, consulting, field service, and system startup work—all focused on dependable operation, clear system visibility, and long-term supportability.

Project overview

Modern controls. Familiar operation.

A major hospital needed to modernize its aging control system. HPCS upgraded multiple obsolete GE 90-30 PLCs throughout the facility to the Emerson PACSystems RX3i platform while preserving the proven sequence of operations and incorporating improvements requested by the customer.

The failed operator interface was replaced with a modern 20-inch touchscreen HMI featuring more useful system data and improved operator visibility. Communications with critical devices, including circuit-breaker trip units and automatic transfer switches, were also significantly improved, providing facility personnel with better system information and greater insight into energy usage.

The project was completed in coordination with the facility’s generator dealer, who upgraded the generator-mounted controls during the same modernization effort. HPCS integrated the new generator controls with the upgraded paralleling switchgear control system, helping ensure that all equipment operated together according to the facility’s required sequence of operations.

Startup support

Military base transfer switch startup support.

An electrical contractor completing a project at a military installation needed specialized assistance with a bypass-isolation automatic transfer switch. Because the contractor had limited experience with this type of equipment, they contacted HPCS for technical support.

HPCS developed equipment-specific startup documentation and worked with the contractor to successfully complete the transfer switch startup.

Controls service and support

Casino critical power controls and sequence updates.

A major casino operator needed assistance resolving switchgear control issues and updating the system’s sequence programming. HPCS evaluated the existing controls, addressed operational problems, and revised several transfer sequences to reflect changes that had been made to the facility over the years.

The updated programming better aligned the system’s operation with the site’s current configuration and operating requirements. HPCS continues to support the customer’s critical-power equipment at this facility and several of its other properties.
